Is Polished Concrete Slippery?

Polished concrete can look slippery, but shine and slip resistance are not the same thing. A properly polished concrete floor still has microscopic texture that provides traction under normal dry conditions. You see polished concrete in big retail stores for exactly that reason. Lots of foot traffic day after day. That said, like with any hard surface, oil, grease, dust, or other contaminants can create a slipping hazard. Water can change the feel too, so spills should be cleaned up. And polished concrete often feels less slippery underfoot than a very smooth epoxy coating. Coatings can have texture added when needed, but polished concrete isn't just a shiny film sitting on top of a slab. You're taking the concrete that's already there and turning it into the finished floor. Bottom line, under normal conditions, a properly polished concrete floor shouldn't be considered slippery simply because it's shiny. The shine is what you see. Traction is what you're actually walking on.
